Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Hibiscus

Evergreen shrub up to 3 metres high with toothed pedunculate leaves. The five-fold, bright red flowers with styles covered in yellow pollen form in the leaf axils. The capsules are ovate with five compartments.

The whole hibiscus plant can be eaten: the roots and leaves raw or stewed, and the flowers pickled or dried as tea.

The splendid hibiscus flowers that bloom all year long give our green jungle a colourful welcoming note and are popular photo motifs for visitors.
