Tree up to 10 metres in height with thin, oval, bipinnate leaflets. The cream-coloured flowers hang in long panicles and form similarly pendulous brown capsules up to 30 cm in length, which open into three valves when mature.

This undemanding plant provides important vitamins and proteins and all its parts can be used, from the leaf to the seeds and roots. Due to the radish-like taste of the roots, moringa is also called the horseradish tree.
