Coccinia grandis

Ivy gourd

Herbaceous winding creeper with heart-shaped, long-stalked, dark green leaves. It produces a large white flower with yellow stamens and later a roundish, scarlet red pepo (a type of berry).

The young shoots of the ivy gourd often feature in Thai cuisine. The plant derives its name from the ivy-like leaves.

Our ivy gourd stands out due to its remarkably vigorous growth. When harvested green, it can be used as a vegetable.
