Zingiber officinale

Ginger

Reed-like herbaceous plant with a pseudo-stem made up of leaf stems, approx. 1 metre high with lanceolate leaves. The rhizome emerging from the soil is nodular with an irregular form. Ginger has yellow or magenta flowers forming a spike.

The miracle plant ginger dies back in winter due to low light levels and sprouts vigorously again in summer.

This important winter spice completes our collection of rhizome-forming plants. The Tropenhaus therefore offers the opportunity to observe the growth of ginger, turmeric and fingerroot.
