Camellia sinensis

Tea

Evergreen tree up to 20 metres in height with smooth-leathery, alternate, elongated-elliptical leaves tapering towards the tip. Tea produces flowers up to 2 cm across with numerous yellow stamens and around eight whitish-pink petals. The fruit is a brown capsule with three compartments, each containing one seed.

Genuine tea contains catechin, caffeine and various tannins. Black tea is dried, rolled and then fermented, while green tea is immediately heated and then dried and rolled. In addition, white, oolong and pu-erh tea are also produced from the leaves of Camellia sinensis.

The tea plant naturally has a place in our tea corner and also flourishes and flowers well in a tub.
